Step 1-Magazine Cover Page Layout

  • Firstly, adjust the page layout. Click "Page Layout" on the top menu.
  • Then we need to set up our margins. Click "Margins" on the sub-menu.
  • On the very bottom of the sub-menu, click "Custom Margins".
  • Now just set the "top, bottom, right and left" margins to "0".

Step 2-Adding Attractive Texts as the Magazine Title

  • Click "Insert" on the top menu.
  • You can either click "Wordart" on the sub-menu to add a title or you can use a font website online
  • Once you have inserted the title, move it to where you want it to be.
  • With Wordart you can add effects to it, select the title and click "Text Effects" under the "Wordart Styles" sub-menu.
  • A new menu will appear and you'll be able to see the effects for your title. Just click one of the options and add a good-looking effect to your title according your wish.

Step 3-Adding Text

Now you should add some text to the magazine cover.

In the text you should say what the magazine is about and also have bold sub-titles for the things that the magazine talks about the most, to make it stand out. The colour of the text and sub-titles should be colours that will stand out and fit best with who the target audience of the magazine is.

Just like when you added the title, you can either use Wordart or a website for fonts, and change the colour and add effects like for the title of the magazine.

You can add a text box to write in by clicking “insert” at the top and then click on text box, you can then choose the type of text box you would like.

Once you have done that and added text you can edit the text box and remove the outline and box fill by selecting the text box and clicking on ‘format’. From there you can edit, by going on ‘shape outline’ or ‘shape fill’ you can choose the colour, but you can also get rid of it by selecting ‘no fill’ or ‘no outline’

Step 4-Adding Photos or Pictures to Your Magazine Cover

First you need to collect or take the photo(s) you will be using for the magazine cover.

  • Click "Insert" on the top menu.
  • Then click "Insert Picture from File" on the sub-menu.
  • Choose the photo which you want it to be on your cover.
  • If you want to make it your background photo, you must set it behind your texts. Otherwise it will cover all of the page and your text won't be visible anymore.
  • In order to move it behind your text, right-click on the photo. Then click "Wrap Text" and then click "Behind Text".
  • Now you can see it as a background and your texts are visible again.
  • And to add photos to go at the front and next to the text you do exactly the same, except don’t select the ‘behind text’ option.

Advantages of Digitally produced products:

An advantage of the E-books and E-magazines is that the people wanting to read the books or magazines will not have to carry around bulky books and lots of paper, they can just take their phone or tablet with them to read them, another advantage is that you can access them wherever you are, e.g. on the train or on a bus, you can just take out your phone and read.

An advantage of all digitally produced products is the money people can save.

Unit 5: Digital Publishing Production

Summary of my research:

Looking at my research, I can see that most of the digitally published products are to inform and entertain an audience. For example, E-magazines are used to entertain the reader with recent gossip and news and E-newspapers are used to inform somebody on recent events. A majority of the digitally produced products are published on devices such as tablets, iPods and smartphones – seeing as a high percentage of the audience will own one of these devices so they will be able to reach these products.

Digitally produced products have lots of advantages. For example, E-books mean that people won’t have to carry bulky books around with them and also with E-magazines and E-newspapers, they won’t have to spend money on buying a magazine or newspaper every week and also they won’t have to make an effort of going to a shop to buy one, when instead they can just go on their smartphone or tablet and find one.
